While making field recordings on the harvest moon trail in wolfville, ns, a bunch of kids rode past on their way to school. A few said hello. The stereo on the bikes going past is nice. These could be used as substitutes for whoosh types of audio effects. Recorded with a zoom h1n with windscreen at 24-bit 48khz resolution and cleaned up in izotope rx. Enjoy!.

Late august here in the midwest is the time for the loud choruses of insects. This recording, done in the backyard of a small town, features the classic"ebb and flow and swell" of the dusk insects. Since a park is nearby, you also hear in the background the excited voices of kids playing---maybe these youngsters do realize that soon they will be back in school and that the joyous, careful time of summer play and reflection will soon be over. This was a very difficult piece of sound design to construct because of my emotions about the disaster and how the national coal board responded: 500 pounds sterling maximum to each grieving parent for each dead child, and with questions such as, "how close were you to your child?" if the answer was somehow not close enough for the panel, no money was awarded.
